// 1/2 Birthday//

I can’t believe my baby girl is 6 months old today.  I know everyone marvels at “how fast it goes by!”, but seriously.  It’s like Eric said to me recently- at first it seemed like we would have a little baby for a long time, and now she’s closer to being a toddler than that little teenser she was a few months ago. Sometimes I already miss those days when she was so little and would just sleep in my arms all day long, but every day life with Evie gets more fun.  And maybe it’s a bad habit to cultivate, but it’s pretty dang sweet that lately she decided she only wants to go to sleep for her naps if she’s in my arms, snuggling on my chest.  I know it won’t last long, so I’ll enjoy it for now.

Did I mention that she’s crawling (CRAWLING!)? Let the frantic baby-proofing commence.

// santa and other lies//

I’m taking Evie to a holiday event tonight where she’ll meet her first Santa!  She is only 4 1/2 months old now, so I know I don’t have to worry about this yet, but I am already thinking about what we’ll tell her about Santa and other magical creatures when the time comes…

I don’t remember ever believing in Santa, really, and I don’t remember what my parents told me to believe.  But I also had an older sister who generally took great delight in disillusioning me when it came to the myths of childhood.  And yet, I was the kind of kid who WANTED to believe, and I do remember staying awake late at night listening for reindeer on the roof, JUST IN CASE.  And we didn’t even have a chimney, ha ha.

So I don’t know what we will tell our daughter.  I don’t want to get caught in a web of parental lies, but I also want her to believe that magic exists in the world… I mean, just because Santa isn’t real doesn’t mean that there aren’t elves and fairies (god forbid), right?  Is there any way to have Santa in the picture for a while without the trauma of discovering the truth?
